The world famous Lake Nakuru was created as a National Park to protect its stunning flocks of lesser Flamingo. Lake Nakuru is world famous as the location of the greatest bird spectacle on earth – myriads of pink flamingo whose numbers are legion, often more than a million and which literally turn its shores pink. They feed on the abundant algae which thrives in the warm waters.

Lake Nakuru National Park spans an attractive range of wooded and bush grassland around the lake offering wide ecological diversity from lake water, woodland to the rocky escarpment and ridges. Noble game within the lake is Hippo and the diverse wildlife.

Lake Nakuru National Park has a sanctuary fro the Rothschild’s giraffe and the endangered black and white rhino. Other wildlife to be seen in Lake Nakuru National Park include Waterbuck, zebra and Cape buffalo are very common. Lion are present in the park and, like the lions of Lake Manyara, are quite often seen in the acacia trees.

Leopard are also frequently sighted and Lake Nakuru National Park is one of the places where visitors have the best chance of seeing these elusive big cats.

The bush lands offer eland, warthog, impala, Mountain Reedbuck and dik dik, whilst rock hyrax and klipspringer occupy the cliffs and escarpment.

Lake Nakuru National Park is home to over 400 species of birdlife and is considered to be a bird watchers paradise.
